5 All-Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Ants
Ants: once they’ve marched into your place, they’re mighty hard to get rid of. Why’s that? Well, consider this: there are a lot of creatures on our planet … but none as populous and hardy as the ubiquitous ant. In fact, scientists think there are at least one quadrillion (yes, quadrillion) ants on Earth – which is 150,000 of the suckers for every single human. And despite our best efforts to keep our homes and spaces clear of their bacteria-coated nippers, ants always seem to slip through the cracks to steal our crumbs once again. So is it pointless to even explore how to get rid of ants?
How to get rid of ants the natural way
1. Lemon
We find them sour, but ants will actually go to great lengths to avoid the toxicity of the citric acids. If they sense lemon juice or spot a lemon peel, they’ll scurry away.
2. Oils
There are actually a range of natural, plant-based essential oils that ants hate – including peppermint and tea tree oils. Just a few drops in an incense burner should do it, and make your home smell lovely as a bonus.
3. Talcum powder
Another substance we love but ants hate is talcum powder. Put a bit of it here and there in the trouble spots and it will really mess with the critters’ pheromone trail and clog up their airways.
4. Cinnamon
Does every method for how to get rid of bull ants make your house smell delicious? That’s certainly also the case with cinnamon, which is delicious for us but actually toxic and rancid from the ants’ perspective.
5. Vinegar
Ever notice that if you put vinegar on your fish & chips, the ants will never bother you? As a safe and natural ant repellent, dilute some 1:1 in water and splash it around the trouble areas. For extra effectiveness, shake some salt & pepper on the solution and watch the ants scurry away.
